![]() If you’re a parent, you’ve seen that look cross your child’s face at some point in their wee lives. This book speaks to young children and their families. In fact, Armadillo learns how to swim from Monkey and Flamingo and even gives Mouse a ride in the deeper water! The next day, Monkey, Flamingo, and Mouse are angry to get the bugs and end up kicking the Wishing Stone into the water!! When they realize the Wishing Stone was really Armadillo, they save him from the water, thank him for all his hard work, and they become friends. Now, as you can imagine, different animals like different foods so of course, Armadillo collects his favourite foods to go into the secret den and spends the entire night looking for juicy critters and bugs. The final wish by the little trio is for food in their little secret den. Here comes the spoiler so if you don’t want to know, don’t read! ![]() ![]() Thus, the wishing stone is born when the animals discover the new little pool for Mouse.Īrmadillo spends the next nights granting Monkey and Flamingo’s wish until something suspenseful happens. By morning, Armadillo is tired and has crawled back up into a ball to sleep. Armadillo decides to make Mouse’s wish come true and spends the entire night digging a little pool for Mouse to enjoy the next day. Unbeknownst to them, the rock Mouse is sitting on happens to be Armadillo! Armadillo learns that Mouse wishes there was a smaller little pool of water for it to play in since it can’t swim. Monkey and Flamingo go to play in the water while mouse sits out because it can’t swim. One day, a monkey, mouse, and flamingo come by. The Wishing Stone is about a ‘shy’ armadillo that is sweet and gentle and would love to make new friends except that every time a new animal comes along, he rolls up into a ball to hide from them. I then spent some time reading the book at the bookstore and realized that it had some good topics to discuss with my inquisitive child. They’re quaint and whimsical and had a soft delicate touch to them which instantly appealed to me. On top of that, this book offers different topics that we could use to offshoot some great discussions. I bought it for about $5 which is a great deal because it was a hard cover book. Recently, in the ‘last copies’ section, I found this book called, The Wishing Stone by Steve Smallman and Rebecca Elliott. We’ll often go to the bookstore to browse in the kids’ section and see what we can find. ![]() Her interests vary and our children’s book selection is a reflection of that diversity. My child is an avid reader and we go through a lot of books. ![]()
